Over the years of running Kamicarv, whenever a client approaches us to design an artwork , I always begin by asking one question: “What makes this piece meaningful to you?” Because I have always believed that when we truly understand what an artwork means to someone, we can create something that carries real warmth, value, and meaning.

Some clients want to give it to someone important. Some want it as a some want to keep it for themselves. Others hope to preserve a blessing, a memory, or a special chapter of life through a piece of artwork. Some are creating it for a close friend they have known for many years. Others are creating it for someone who has guided or helped them along the way, hoping to leave behind a meaningful memory for someone important.

Interestingly, no matter what their answer is, I have noticed one thing they all have in common. They are never just giving a gift. They are giving a piece of their heart. Because when someone truly matters to us, we want to put thought into what we give them. That is why, many times, the real challenge is not whether to give a gift, but what kind of gift can genuinely express what we feel.

There are many gifts available in the market. Flowers, gift baskets, decorative items, health products, and all kinds of personalised gifts — each has its own value. Yet I have always felt that a truly good gift does more than convey blessings. It quietly communicates something else as well. That something is the giver’s taste. Because gifts speak on our behalf. They allow others to feel how much we value the relationship, while also reflecting our choices in aesthetics, quality, and attention to detail. This is why some gifts leave a lasting impression despite not being expensive, while others, though valuable in price, are quickly forgotten. What people remember has never been the price, but the meaning behind it.

The artwork I am sharing this time is inspired by the peacock. The peacock has long been a symbol of elegance, nobility, and refined taste. It is elegant and striking, yet never feels overly showy. It carries rich colours while maintaining a unique sense of grace. I believe that is one of the reasons so many people are drawn to peacocks. Because what it represents is not merely beauty, but also a pursuit of a higher quality of life. When we bring these meanings into paper carving art, the artwork becomes more than a decorative object. It carries blessings. And it carries the emotions the giver wishes to express. Over the years, I have come to believe one thing more and more strongly. Whether a gift is for a friend, a family member, or someone important, a truly valuable gift is not one that simply creates excitement at the moment it is received. Rather, it is one that, many years later, still brings back the same when they see the artwork again. It reminds the recipient of the emotion they felt when they first received it. That feeling is the most precious of all.

This is also one of the reasons why we at Kamicarv continue to devote ourselves to creating paper carving art. Many people think that we create paper carving art. But I prefer to say that we help people preserve emotions. Because what our clients are purchasing has never been merely the paper carving itself. They are investing in blessings, gratitude, memories, milestones, and all those feelings that are often difficult to express in words. Paper carving is how those emotions are transformed into something that can be treasured for years to come.

When traditional craftsmanship meets sincere intentions, a gift gains the value of being treasured for years to come. And I believe that this is the greatest difference between artistic gifts and ordinary gifts. Because what is truly worth keeping has never been just the artwork itself. It is the story behind it, and the precious emotions shared between people.
