Wayang kulit is one of the oldest and probably one of the greatest story telling tradition in the world. The main components of the performance are the blencong(oil lamp), kelir(screen) and the intricately designed wayang kulit characters which are made of cow or goat hide. Wayang kulit is a Javanese shadow puppetry art form which originated from Indian puppet theatre. This explains the influence of Hinduism and the use of great historical Hindu epics such as The Ramayana and Mahabharata to deliver moral, ethical and deep philosophical ideas through lively entertainment.
