【#Director Insights】 #23 Why I Love Combining Paper Carving with Foil Stamping
Paper carving and foil stamping are two traditional crafts that have become rare in modern times, yet they possess unparalleled charm. As a craft enthusiast, I have a special fondness for paper carving, and I particularly love combining it with foil stamping. This combination is not only unique but also a tribute to and preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
▋ This is why I am so passionate about paper carving combined with foil stamping.ㅤ
Firstly, both paper carving and foil stamping are ancient Chinese crafts that represent our cultural heritage. Paper carving involves transforming a sheet of paper into a work of art through precise cutting and sculpting, while foil stamping adds shimmering metallic details, making the artwork even more vibrant and three-dimensional. Both of these crafts require time and dedication to master. Creating pieces that combine them feels especially meaningful to me.
Secondly, it’s increasingly rare to find paper carving and foil stamping works on the market today. Most people now seek convenience and speed, but I believe these traditional handcrafts should not be forgotten. True handmade works are becoming scarce and precious due to the rise of machine production in modern society. It is precisely because of their rarity that they are so valuable.
Every piece of paper carving with foil stamping that my team and I create takes a lot of time and effort, and each one is something to be cherished.
Lastly, the process of combining paper carving and foil stamping is quite complex and requires immense patience and skill. Every detail in paper carving needs to be carefully designed, and foil stamping demands precise placement of thin metallic sheets on the artwork. When these two crafts are combined, the results are often breathtaking.
Today, by sharing these works that combine both crafts, I hope more people can appreciate the unique artistic charm they hold. I also hope that everyone can join us in cherishing and passing down this beautiful traditional craft.
